DAYTONA BEACH – On Thursday night, the Holy Trinity Episcopal Academy of Melbourne hit the road to take on Father Lopez in a battle of central Florida small-school basketball powers. As two-sport star and Florida football commitment Marcus Maye sat on the bench with foul trouble early in the second quarter, Holy Trinity fell behind by double-digits and went into the half with a eight-point deficit as they looked to regain their composure and poise in a hostile environment.
UF ready for MSU on short turnaround

Florida already had a short turnaround playing Ole Miss on Thursday night and will be forced to come back home to host Mississippi State at 1:30 p.m. in the Stephen C. O’Connell Center on Saturday.
That turnaround got even shorter when the plane they were supposed to fly out of Oxford on got hung up on a connection. The team drove to Tupelo to fly out and then sat on the plane for an extra 45 minutes because the flight crew couldn’t get in touch with Memphis air control.
When all was said and done, Billy Donovan and his team didn’t arrive back on campus till about 1:30 a.m. on Friday morning.
“I think that we’ll be fine,” Donovan said. “They’ve got enough time to get enough rest. I think we were wise today in practice, I don’t think we went (too hard).”

Patric Young fighting through the pain for Florida

Florida began its last three games without starting sophomore center Patric Young on the floor, but the chiseled 6-foot-9, 247-pound giant hasn’t failed to make an impact yet during a four-game winning streak.
In fact, Young’s coming off one of his most productive outings of the year after racking up 15 points on 7-10 shooting in a come-from-behind win over Ole Miss on Thursday.
“I haven’t seen any carryover or affect from the ankle after we held him out during our bye week,” coach Billy Donovan said. “This whole week of practice, he’s (been) in every second. He wasn’t complaining about it.”

If the team’s record is any indication, it would seem as if Gators’ head coach Amanda Butler has mastered the ability to refocus, refresh and reload her team during its annual bye week.

UF hosts prospects for Junior Day
January 27th, 2012

With National Signing Day for 2012 only a few days away, Florida is turning its attention to the 2013 class. On Saturday, the Gators are hosting the first of two Junior Days. Some prospects will even stay the night in Gainesville – on their own dime as this is an unofficial visit — and leave town on Sunday afternoon.
The Gators have offered several junior prospects scholarship already, and are in the process of completing evaluations on many others, so expect more offers to be reported in the coming days and weeks.
With ACT testing on Saturday, Florida will not have as many prospects on campus as they wanted, but there still should be a solid turnout.
